Description

What is an Arishtam?
Most people in the West are unfamiliar with the arishtam format — and understanding it changes how you relate to this product entirely.
An arishtam is a fermented herbal preparation, unique to the Ayurvedic tradition. The herbs are decocted, combined with natural sugars and honey, and then allowed to ferment in sealed vessels for a precise period — typically 30 days or more. During this fermentation, a small but significant amount of natural alcohol is produced, which serves not as an intoxicant but as a vehicle — carrying the active constituents of the herbs deep into the tissues of the body, bypassing the digestive limitations that affect conventional supplements.
This is one of the reasons classical Ayurvedic formulas like Saraswatharishtam have endured for thousands of years. The delivery mechanism is as sophisticated as the formula itself. The bioavailability is exceptional. And the fermentation process itself adds probiotic benefit to the gut environment through which all absorption begins.
This is ancient pharmaceutical wisdom. It simply works differently — and more deeply — than a capsule.
The Gold — Swarna Bhasma
In Rasa Shastra — the Ayurvedic science of alchemical medicine — metals and minerals are transformed through an elaborate purification process into bhasmas: fine, bioavailable powders whose therapeutic properties are considered far superior to the raw material. Gold bhasma, Swarna Bhasma, is the most revered of all.
In Ayurvedic tradition, Swarna Bhasma is held to enhance ojas — the fundamental vital essence of the body — and specifically medhya agni, the intelligence of the mind. It is used in the treatment of neurological conditions, deep exhaustion, immune deficiency, and as a supreme rasayana for longevity and rejuvenation. Its inclusion in Saraswatharishtam is not decorative. It is intentional, precise, and places this formula in a different category to any cognitive supplement that does not carry it.
QS — quantum sufficit — meaning the precise quantity sufficient for therapeutic effect, as determined by the classical formula. This is not a trace amount included for marketing purposes. It is Swarna Bhasma, included as the ancient texts direct.
The Classical Formula
Saraswatharishtam is a multi-herb formula of considerable depth and complexity. Each ingredient plays a specific role — some as primary cognitive and nervine agents, others as digestive vehicles, synergists, or fermentation facilitators. Together they form a whole that is significantly greater than any single herb within it.
The foremost medhya rasayana. Supports memory formation, recall, neural repair, and sustained concentration. The cognitive anchor of this entire formula.
The great nourisher. Replenishes the deep vital reserves that cognitive depletion draws upon, supporting both nervous system resilience and the ojas that underpins all mental vitality.
A deeply nourishing rasayana used to rebuild physical and mental strength, support reproductive vitality, and restore the body’s foundational energy reserves.
One of Ayurveda’s most celebrated tridoshic herbs — balancing all three doshas — supporting digestion, detoxification, and the clear metabolic environment in which cognitive function thrives. One of the three fruits of the great Triphala formula.
The second fruit of Triphala. Supports respiratory health, voice clarity, and the clearing of accumulated toxins that cloud mental function.
A deeply cooling, calming herb used in Ayurveda to reduce excess Pitta — the heat and intensity that drives mental agitation, irritability, and inflammatory cognitive burden.
The universal bioenhancer. Stimulates circulation, kindles digestive fire, and dramatically amplifies the absorption and delivery of every other ingredient in the formula.
Supports digestive comfort, reduces bloating, and assists in the smooth movement of the formula through the digestive tract.
The primary fermentation herb of classical arishtam preparations. Its flowers catalyse and regulate the fermentation process that makes this delivery format so therapeutically superior.
Ayurveda’s premier bioavailability enhancer, used across classical formulas to ensure deep tissue penetration of active constituents. The same principle that underpins modern piperine research.
The great adaptogen. Recalibrates the stress response, rebuilds adrenal vitality, and clears the cortisol-driven cognitive fog that is the most common driver of mental decline in modern adults.
A powerful immune rasayana and adaptogen, used in Ayurveda to protect against cellular damage, support the liver’s detoxification capacity, and build the systemic resilience that sustains long-term vitality.
Warming, aromatic, and deeply supportive of the digestive environment. Lifts the mood, clears the channels of the mind, and brings a gentle brightening quality to the formula.
An important digestive and nervine herb, used traditionally to clear the gut of accumulated ama (toxins) that impair nutrient absorption and cloud mental clarity.
Blood sugar stabilising, warming, and deeply aromatic. Supports healthy cerebral circulation and metabolic balance — two of the most important physiological underpinnings of cognitive function.
Powerfully antimicrobial, circulatory, and warming. Supports the digestive and nervous system environments in which the formula’s cognitive herbs do their finest work.
A classical Ayurvedic herb used for its gentle detoxifying and channel-clearing properties, supporting the removal of accumulated metabolic waste from the tissues.
QS — The crown of this formula. Purified gold, processed according to classical Rasa Shastra into a bioavailable bhasma. The supreme rasayana for ojas, medhya agni, immune vitality, and the deep nourishment of the nervous system and mind.
Classical fermentation media and natural vehicles that support both the fermentation process and the palatability of the finished arishtam.
